Maybe your life has looked a little like mine. You've had your ups and downs, surprises that were great and surprises you could definitely have done without. Who you've been and what you've done has morphed and changed and you've course corrected to accommodate the revisions and elevations of yourself, your work, and your focus many times. Some might say you lack focus, others might roll their eyes.
There is this idea that has been circling in my mind more often as of late. And that's this idea of retirement. I am present to the reality that the gap between me and my future self is much closer than the one with my younger self. Still I feel like it's so far away and I still have so much I want to do with my life. We are so busy sorting through and making sense of the immediate and the urgent that we can easily forget about the future.
last year I had an interesting journey with my professional career and with my relationship to creativity. In some ways I really felt lost, a bit defeated and unsure of myself or my abilities to make decisions. It had me start to question why I even bother pursuing this idea of living a creative life. Wondering often, what that even means.
We make meaning of everything around us. This work of meaning making is part of what distinguishes human being from all other forms of life we're aware of, and yet most of the time, for many of us, we're not even aware its happening.
