Autobiography film - David Schmeikal

Your Journey with Creativity

December 01, 20233 min read

I've got something to share with you! I completed my autobiography. Produced it as a film actually.

When the idea first came around, I thought it was a little silly and self-indulgent. I mean who am I to think that this is actually something I should be doing?

Thankfully I've been in similar situations and I knew this was my que to actually do it.

The process was complex and challenging. But mostly it was rewarding.

Our Relationship to Creativity & Time

This journey made me think about our relationship to creativity and time. Maybe you relate to this (and if you do, reply to this email and let me know). I've always thought I was meant to do more in this world. To make a difference and to be recognized for those contributions.

Not for fame and status or to have a spotlight on me, but because every time I was seen for the things I did, it lit a fire within to keep pushing and doing more.

Most of the time I felt like I had no idea how I would go about achieving this. I would seek external validation and guidance to direct me, most of the advice had me going in all sorts of directions, creating more chaos and confusion internally.

Not because it was bad advice, but because the support I needed was different, I just didn't know it, and neither did those who I asked for help. I would ignore my intuition, because "who am I?" and jump on the path they suggested. And because there are so many on this path, it seemed like it was the right move. In fact you and I likely met on this path.

But inside you find yourself in a divisive state. Questioning if this is really the path YOU need to be on. And rightfully so, as when you look out further, you see so much more that's available. And so you step out into a different direction, just you, blazing a new trail off the beaten path.

Off The Beaten Path

You are optimistic and committed. Filled with excitement by what you think you'll find. But as you push forward, the path becomes harder and harder to travel.

The obstacles, larger and larger to overcome. And you find yourself questioning every decision you've made. Wondering if you shouldn't have just stuck to the road of many.

You sit. The feeling of hopelessness and despair weighing you down. You are just about to pack it all in and find your way back when you notice someone else.

They're not far off and it looks like they too are also attempting to create their own path in a similar direction as you.

Your People! You're fired up! You're not crazy after all! (Well, you are) But now you can be crazy with someone else! You grab your stuff and make your way to them. Hopeful and with a renewed sense of resolve and commitment.

That's the thing about purpose and creativity

You will think you're crazy to pursue these things that you're called to explore. Until you find others who seem just as crazy as you and then the whole game changes.

I am inviting you to watch my film and if you're curious, to embark on a journey with me. To push beyond what it is you think you need to be, based on everyone else's rules, recalibrate your creativity and elevate your relationship to time.
