This post is about the retreat that changed nothing—and somehow, everything. It’s about the myth of instant transformation, the quiet grip of patriarchy in our creative lives, and the sacred act of choosing your voice over validation. It’s both a confession and a creative war cry.
We all are looking for results. We all know there are actions we need to take to help us get those results. And we all struggle with the nuances that taking action reveals. Chances are, you've grappled with this dilemma. I think it's safe to say we all do in some way or another.
Truth be told, I don’t spend nearly enough time in my book writing about the grapple. No, instead I’m just IN the grapple, at the effect of the grapple. Getting the shit kicked out of me by the grapple. Wishing I was somewhere else, anywhere else but here…in the grapple. Maybe I write about it afterwards, but usually it’s very summarized and lacks context and depth. In that form, it rarely serves me as clarity is missing.
I don’t know what the future looks like. We could be headed for a dystopian nightmare. The planet could stop working and die. AI could take over the world. Or not. The constant distractions our mind creates keeps the heart from doing what it needs to do - connected and feel connected to humanity and to one another. To meet another human being where they are. Wherever that might be.
